Pros / Cons

  • Tap beers are reasonably priced from $10 for 0.5L
  • Outdoor seating makes it easy to enjoy a beer festival atmosphere.
  • Wide variety of sausages
  • Pets are allowed.
  • It took quite a while to serve the food.
  • The road to get there is dark, so it’s a little unsettling at night.
  • Slightly inaccessible as there is no MRT nearby.

Atmosphere

The store is located in Phoenix Park in Tanglin. This is the entrance to the Park.

You can reach the restaurant after about a 5-minute walk through the park, and you can follow the arrows on the signs inside the park.

The Park has a building that looks like a deserted office or school, and it is dark at night, so it is quite scary.

Appearance

As you climb the hill, this restaurant suddenly appears. It is an outdoor beer garden with tents. It is relatively easy to find as only this place is lit while the surrounding area is pitch-dark. It is like an oasis in the desert. It has a very nice atmosphere reminiscent of a beer festival.

Interior

The restaurant is outdoor seating only. It feels quite old in terms of construction.

Tables for two, four, and six people are available to cover both pairs and large groups. It seems that pets are allowed, and there were quite a few customers with their dogs. It was like a place to enjoy a drink while walking your dog.

I visited around 7pm on a Sunday night and there was still some room in the seats. I think this is a good place for a beer garden because it is not located in a place where many restaurants are concentrated and it suddenly appears in the Park.

Food

Menu

Ordering is done from your smartphone by scanning the QR. Here is the drink menu.

As you would expect from a beer garden, there is a wide selection of beer, with 0.5L Tap starting at $10, which is very reasonable.

And here is the Food menu. When you think of Germany, you think of sausages. There is a wide variety of sausages, including beef, pork, chicken, and seafood, at reasonable prices starting at $7 per plate. It is a very exciting menu lineup.

Eating

Now, I would like to introduce the menu I actually ordered this time.

Grevensteiner Lagar 500ml $11

The first drink I ordered was this one. This “Grevensteiner” is one of the traditional German beers. It has a dark amber to caramel color and is characterized by a fruity, somewhat sweet and multi-flavored taste. It combines a rich malt flavor with a moderate hop bitterness. It is very tasty and is only one of the most popular German beers among connoisseurs.

Garden Green Salad. $6

Fresh vegetables are available at very reasonable prices. Served with honey lemon vinegar. The dressing is a perfect combination of sour and sweet flavors, perfect for fresh vegetables.

Potato salad (with bacon) $4

When I think of Germany, I think of sausages and potatoes, so I ordered this Potato Salad. The potatoes are melt-in-your-mouth and the seasoning is quite mild, so you can drink beer forever while picking it up little by little. The price is also very reasonable.

Sausage Platter $22

This is the Sausage Platter I ordered for my main course. It is an assortment of beef and pork Wienerli, Meatloaf, Currywurst, and Nurnberger sausages. Each sausage can of course be ordered separately, but if you order them all individually, the total cost will be $31, so the Platter ($22) is a much better value. The Platter is a good size for two or three people to share, so if you have more than one person, I highly recommend ordering the Platter.

All are very tasty and authentic German sausages. Personally, I particularly enjoyed the curry flavored Currywurst (in the center of the plate), which went well with beer.

Schneider Weisse 500ml $11

This is Schneider Weisse, a brand renowned for producing Weizenbier (wheat beer). It is very refreshing and easy to drink, with a fruity flavor. This brand is often seen at Oktoberfest and other events, and is like the face of German beer. It is so easy to drink that I finished it in no time.

Access

The restaurant is located in Phoenix Park in Tanglin. The MRT does not go nearby, so it is better to take a bus or a cab. The shop at the top of the hill in the Park is “BB&B – Bread, Beer & Brez’n”.

Summary

This is a great German beer garden restaurant where you can enjoy a beer festival atmosphere in a casual atmosphere. The beer is reasonably priced, with 0.5 liter bottles priced at $10, which is very nice for beer lovers.

The restaurant also suddenly appears on top of a hill in the park, creating a very nice atmosphere that combines a sense of hidden gem with a sense of the outdoors.

Although the accessibility is a little inconvenient, this beer garden is highly recommended because of its good atmosphere. I recommend everyone to check it out.
