General Review

You can eat very authentic Hitsumabushi or Unagi-don (eel bowl). The fragrant grilled eel is almost on par with that of Japan. I thought the quality was very high.

However, I thought it was a bit pricey and the size was a bit small for that reason. (For those who want to eat a lot, a large size is also available.)

However, the taste was very satisfying. I could think that I had not had such a delicious eel in a long time.

It is a good restaurant specializing in eel that you should definitely visit at least once 😀

Atmosphere

The store is located in a little park off Keong Saik Rd. in Tanjong Pagar. The restaurant is located in a park-like area off Keong Saik Rd. in Tanjong Pagar. The entrance is located in an unusual place. It took me a while to find the store because I thought it was along the street.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can find “Ikesu”. Very authentic!

お店の店内はこのような感じです。日本的な装飾が非常に印象的です。

I had often read in the reviews that it was always crowded and that you had to wait in a very long line, but when I went there, there was no wait and I was able to be seated right away. There was still some room to be seated. It was lunch time on a weekend.

I was able to sit at the counter, so I was able to watch closely as the artisans processed and grilled the eel. It was a lot of fun to watch while waiting for my food. The voltage of wanting to eat eels was going up and up and up 😀.

Food

Menu

Ordering is done by reading the QR and placing your order with your smartphone. I like this ordering method because I don’t have to call the waiter, and I think it is convenient.

You can choose between HITSUMABUSHI and Donburi for the main course.

For regular size, the price is the same for both Hitsumabushi and Unagi-don. Strangely enough, the price of Hitsumabushi is a little higher for Large size.

The menu has a wide variety of dishes, so it will be fun to revisit and try different eel bowls.

Eat

This time, I ordered the regular size of Hitsumabushi. It does not take long from the time you order to the time it is served.

The main dish of Hitsumabushi comes with soup, wasabi, green onion and nori, takuan (pickled radish), and dashi broth. At the end of the meal, you are asked to eat it as chazuke! It is a very delightful set that is twice as tasty in one sitting 😀.

The surface of the hitsu-mabushi is grilled to a crisp, and the eel is thick and full of fat. It is almost as good as the real thing you can get in Nagoya.

The final dish is chazuke, which is a dish of rice in a broth made from broth. This broth has a very comforting taste and goes perfectly with the eel.

As for the taste, I have nothing to complain about. However, the amount of the bowl is a little smaller than expected and may be a little insufficient for a male. I think you can eat a large size bowl at all.

Price

  • Hitsumabushi (Regular) $35

It’s a bit pricey 😅I personally thought it would be well worth the price if it were a bit larger in size.

Summary

Again, you can eat very authentic Hitsumabushi. I can only be thankful that this quality is available in Singapore!

That makes it a little more expensive 😀.

No complaints about the taste! I wish the bowl was a little bigger! This is my honest opinion.

Please visit us at least once. You will not find eels of this quality in Singapore!
