General Review

This restaurant is famous for its authentic Japanese cuisine in Singapore, and you can often see posts on social networking sites about having been there.

When you go there, you will understand why it has such a good reputation. The quality of the Japanese cuisine is high. It is as if you can eat kappo cuisine in Japan as it is in Singapore. Each dish is carefully prepared.

This time I visited for dinner, so we ordered a la carte, but I strongly thought that next time I would like to visit for lunch to have a set meal.

It would be very useful to know one such restaurant!

Atmosphere

The store is located on the fourth floor of the Mandarin Gallery in Orchard. The store can be easily found because of the large sign for Suju. It is very quaint.

On the second floor of the Mandarin Gallery, there is also “beni Singapore,” a French restaurant with a Michelin star Japanese chef, and “Tonkatsu by Ma Maison,” a tonkatsu restaurant that is always crowded with people waiting in line. Tonkatsu by Ma Maison” is also located on the second floor. If you are interested in this restaurant, please take a look at this review ☟

The restaurant is divided into a table seating zone and a counter seating zone. This time, I visited the counter seats.

At the counter, you can watch the chefs at work up close.

It is a little confusing, but there is a zone of table seating at the back of the restaurant. It has the atmosphere of an authentic Japanese restaurant. It is not noisy and is a good place to have a relaxing meal.

Menu

Ordering is done by reading the QR and ordering with a smartphone. It is very convenient because you do not have to call the restaurant. Of course, you can also order directly from the restaurant. When they saw that I was running out of alcohol, they would ask if we wanted to order more, which we appreciated 😊

Now I would like to introduce the menu I ordered this time. The first item is here.

Home Made Tofu Salad ($21). The tofu is very rich and delicious, not to mention the dressing on it. As you would expect from a place that claims to be home made 😀 It is a perfect first dish.

Here is the second item. Tamagoyaki ($13).

What do you think of these beautiful Tamagoyaki? I have never encountered such a high quality Tamagoyaki that reminds me of the taste of Japan since I came to Singapore. It is a very authentic. They are flavored with dashi (Japanese soup stock), so they are very tasty even if you eat them without soy sauce.

And here is the third item I ordered for my main course. Stir-fried Chicken Thighs with Black Vinegar ($26). This is one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

The authenticity of the dish is evident from its appearance, and first of all, the coloring satisfies me. I felt I could eat as much as I wanted of the chicken thighs, which were well seasoned with black vinegar. Although it is a meat dish, it is very refreshing. Although it is a main dish, I think it is a dish that can be eaten healthily.

And since I was in the mood for one more dish, here is the last one I ordered. Char-grilled Hokke ($22).

It may be a little hard to tell from this picture, but it is very thick. I think they are using very high quality fish. It was much tastier than the hokke at those izakaya (Japanese style pubs) in Japan.

All the dishes were of very high quality and I was very satisfied with the dinner 😊

Summary

I could understand very well why it has a good reputation among Japanese people living in Singapore. Japanese food, which is classified as one of the highest quality in Japan, is available in Singapore as it is in Japan.

The price of each dish is a little high, but considering the quality of this food, I think the price is well worth paying.

Next time I would like to have the dish with rice with a hearty meal at lunch.

Suju also has a store at Takashimaya, so I would love to visit that one as well.

It is definitely a good restaurant that we recommend, so if you have never been there, please give it a try!
