Pros / Cons

  • Stylish atmosphere that sets it apart from ordinary Chinese restaurants.
  • Easy to use even for one person as there is counter seating.
  • A wide variety of wines are available to enjoy the combination of Chinese food and wine.
  • Each dish is more expensive than a regular Chinese restaurant
  • When I entered the restaurant, I was told that I could not get in even though there were empty seats. But when I pointed this out, somehow they let me in.

Atmosphere

Appearance

The store is located along Amoy St. in Chinatown. The wood-grain exterior is very stylish. At first, I didn’t think this was a Chinese restaurant. There were also two outdoor tables.

Interior

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere with slightly dim lighting. There is also counter seating, making it easy to use the restaurant alone. The restaurant was crowded with many young people of local, European, and American descent.

The restaurant is larger than expected, with many tables set up in the back. The interior decoration is also very elaborate.

This time I visited the restaurant on a Friday around 8pm. The restaurant was very crowded and there were many customers who had to turn back because the restaurant was full. I visited without a reservation, and although there were empty seats at the counter, I was initially refused because the restaurant was full. However, when I pointed this out and tried to negotiate, for some reason they readily let me in. I guess you should try to negotiate without giving up. What I am trying to say is that this is a popular restaurant where reservations are a must.

Food

Menu

I would like to introduce a part of the menu. Here is the appetizer menu.

The “Find the Chicken in the Chillies” seemed to be a very popular menu item, and most of the customers at our table ordered it. I ordered it myself and will introduce it later.

The price is a bit high compared to a regular Chinese restaurant, but considering that it is a French fusion restaurant, I think it is not too expensive. However, considering the fact that it is a fusion with French cuisine, I do not think it is too expensive. In the case of French cuisine, it is common to spend more than $25 per dish for an appetizer.

And here is the main menu. Among the main dishes, the Spicy Good Slime Shine noodle dish seems to be popular.

By the way, 12-7pm is Happy Hour. Full pint beers are only $12 instead of the usual $17.

Eating

I ordered two dishes plus a beer.

Find the Chicken in the Chillies $19

This is one of the most popular menu items at this restaurant. Many people at the table ordered this dish. It was also very popular by word of mouth on the web.

As the menu name suggests, this dish is made by finding popcorn chicken buried in a large amount of chili peppers. The numbing spiciness is very addictive. It is relatively easy to eat because it is not that hot. In addition to chicken, there are whole garlic cloves in it. It is also very tasty and makes for a very punchy dish.

Pork Dumpling $18

This is the second dish I ordered. This dish is a French version of what is called “dumpling,” which is a fusion dish. Underneath the green sauce is a hot chili sauce, which gives the dish a chili flavor typical of Chinese cuisine. However, the French-style green sauce and the orange sauce on top of the dumplings are sweet, providing an exquisite combination of spiciness and sweetness. It is a very unique flavor. I had never had dumplings like this before. I highly recommend this dish as well.

Brewerkz, Golden Ale, Draught, Singapore Full pint $17

This is Golden Ale from Brewerkz, one of the famous breweries in Singapore. It is very refreshing and comfortable to drink, and goes well with Chinese food with strong hot and spicy flavors.

Access

The store is located along Amoy St. in Chinatown and can be accessed from any of the following MRT stations: CHINA TOWN, Tanjong Pagar, and Raffles Place. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from any of the stations.

There are many fashionable restaurants in this area. Josephine”, a casual French restaurant that we visited just a few days ago, is also located nearby.

Summary

We found a stylish Chinese restaurant that is different from the usual Chinese restaurants. The open atmosphere makes it easy to enter. The prices are a little higher than those of regular Chinese restaurants, but considering that it is a fusion of French and Chinese cuisine, the prices may be rather reasonable.

I highly recommend this restaurant to those who want to try something different from the usual Chinese food. Why don’t you check it out?
